Alexandre Mendes Cursino

Doctoral Student

Alexandre Mendes Cursino belongs to a generation of urban Indigenous people in Brazil. As an activist-researcher, he is engaged in the re-creation of Indigenous knowledge with and for the Maraká'nà Village in Kûánãpará, known as Rio de Janeiro. His family ties to Kariri in the Northeast and Guarani in the Southeast of Brazil. He completed an MA in Adult Education and Community Development with a specialization in Indigenous Education at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto. He is currently pursuing his PhD in Education at York University, by focusing on Indigenous resurgence learning.
